Empowering Indigenous Youth Through Skills and Culture

The Heart of Maiyanat

The Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Life Skills and Cultural Development Centre is a community-owned TVET born from the plains of Northern Kenya. Established by IMPACT, the centre arose as a direct response to the urgent needs of our indigenous youth.

In a region where high unemployment, low educational access, and harmful cultural practices—such as early marriage and cattle rustling—have long hindered progress, Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Life Skills and Cultural Development Centre stands as a beacon of hope. We transform lives by providing a sanctuary for learning where traditional knowledge is not replaced, but reinforced by modern vocational expertise.

Our Journey

Built by the Community, for the Community

Established by IMPACT, the Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Centre arose in response to the urgent needs of indigenous youth in Northern Kenya. Recognizing the challenges they face, including limited educational and employment opportunities, we launched Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Life Skills and Cultural Development Centre to provide vocational training and cultural preservation programs. Our history reflects a deep commitment to empowering youth to break free from cycles of poverty and harmful practices.

Since its inception, Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Life Skills and Cultural Development Centre history is rooted in the commitment to break cycles of poverty. Since its inception, Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Life Skills and Cultural Development Centre has focused on equipping youth from pastoralist backgrounds with the tools to become economically independent. By integrating cultural pride into our curriculum, we ensure that as our students learn to build, weld, or sew, they also learn to value and protect their indigenous identity and land rights.
