Youth unemployment in Northern Kenya is a hurdle, but Ben Reki just proved it’s not an invisible wall. Coming from a pastoralist community where opportunities can be scarce, Ben joined the Maiyanat Indigenous Youth Centre with a singular focus: to gain a skill that would change his life.
After an intensive three-month plumbing apprenticeship covering everything from high-pressure pipe fitting to complex sanitation systems, Ben didn’t just graduate—he hit the ground running. Today, he is a key member of the technical team at Oljogi Conservancy, maintaining the vital water infrastructure that keeps the conservancy running.
